Rant: Sex and the City 2

satc2

There have been a variety of negative to moderate reviews about the second movie installment of SATC.  The ladies jump into topics that many women deal with after years of fighting to find “the one”.  Some reviews have commented about the scenes in the middle east being offensive and that the fashion was disappointing.  But the real problem is that there was some real possibility in the movie that was left undiscovered. The reasons women rant on this site were dealt with sparingly in the movie instead of an honest dialogue about why Carrie “needed” to go on that date with Aidan.  Why did Charlotte feel the need to lie about being overwhelmed with kids and a husband?  Yes, she had help but the multiple roles women are required to play and the constant need from a family can be suffocating.  So what if she had help, she couldn’t breath.  And after years of slaving in a career and climbing up the ladder, Miranda had to put up with a man thinking it acceptable to give her the HAND?!

What do you think Divas?  Add your thoughts and then post a new RANT.  I am sure the holiday weekend was wonderful and frustrating all at the same time.

There is a lot of excitement and criticism of the upcoming release of Disney’s Frog Princess.  Parents who have gone through their daughter’s “princess” phase and struggled with purchasing Disney items with bold pictures of princesses without color are simply proud.  In addition, for women who spent their childhood seeking a definition of beauty that related to them, we are elated.  With a black president and beautiful brown girls living in the White House like royalty, maybe the new Princess Tiana is not as pivotal as when Disney announced the project.

Tiana_2_jpgDivas Ranting was able to see a long version of the movie trailer at the Blogalicious Conference in October. The room was full of diverse women of color who were wiping tears after experiencing the voices of the movie and the encouraging nature of its theme. Tiana being black was only part of the impact, the clip told our story in a way that too many of us could connect. It wasn’t simply a princess story, it was the story of hope, persistence and courage that have been in our struggles and successes. It was the message we all hope to give our children about a future they will create.

How does taking your little princes and  princesses to see the Princess and The Frog make you feel?

How does it make the little girl in you feel?
